The Camel is a dramatic rock formation adjacent to Crown Mountain. Its characteristic ‘camel’ shape is easily seen from the Grouse Mountain Chalet, Dam Mountain, and Goat Mountain Since its first recorded ascent by H. Hewton, in 1908, the Camel has attracted thousands of rock climbers including Hollyburn pioneers George Pope, Alf Staley, and Gerry Hardman. The numerous “half-pitch” routes are well-documented in Bruce Fairley’s book, “A Guide to Hiking and Climbing in Southwestern British Columbia”. The Camel should be attempted only by well-equipped, experienced parties.
